Ethereum Client Research (Reth)

Research and open source work on Reth, the high performance, modular Ethereum execution client written in Rust by Paradigm. The goal: understand an execution client end to end, then contribute where it counts.

The Project

Reth is one of the leading Ethereum execution clients: it executes transactions, maintains state, and serves the JSON RPC and Engine APIs that connect the network to consensus. It is built for performance and modularity. Every subsystem ships as a standalone Rust crate, which makes it both a production client and the best codebase to learn protocol internals from.

What I'm Digging Into

The staged sync pipeline that turns a fresh node into a synced one. The hybrid storage layer, with MDBX for hot state and static files for history. The Engine API path that processes blocks from the consensus layer. The Merkle Patricia Trie implementation with parallel state root computation.

Work happens on a personal fork, on feature branches: reading, instrumenting, and building changes against the real codebase rather than a toy.
